Description
Milky Way Motors is an educational point-and-click game. Players must fix UFO ships by solving puzzles using their math skills. The more ships fixed the more points the players earn.
Minigame Design
Addition Minigame
The first puzzle started off as an addition and multiplication minigame. However, we decided on making a unique minigame for each math operation for players to enjoy a variety of games. I designed the prototype for players to click and drag fuel cells into UFOs that add up to the required sum.
I simplified the design of the minigame to be short, simple, and easy to understand. Players must drag 3 tanks that add up to the sum over to the slot area to complete the minigame.
Division Minigame
Like the addition minigame, we wanted the division minigame to be simple and easy to understand. I wanted this minigame to be a little different by having the players find a missing variable rather than the answer. Players must click and drag the pliers and cut the appropriate wire according to the missing variable.
Geometry Minigame
Since most of our minigames were designed around interior maintenance of UFOs I wanted one to focus on the exterior. Therefore, I designed this geometry minigame around fixing the outside of a UFO. Players must drag and drop geometrical shapes in their appropriate slots to fix the exterior of the ship.
We ended up changing the idea to a paint job in the final product. After dragging the shapes in their appropriate slots players can grab a spray can and paint on the ship.
